The MV Valkyrie, originally commissioned in 1944 as a U.S. Army Air–Sea Rescue Boat designated P-750, was part of a specialized fleet aimed at recovering downed pilots and rescuing personnel in some of the harshest maritime environments. After the war, the P-750 Rescue Boat was declared surplus and transitioned into civilian life. Under the direction of renowned Northwest naval architect Edmund J.
